What Tenure Actually Protects

"They've been here for years, they don't like change" is the explanation I hear most often for resistance, and it's almost always incomplete. What tenure protects isn't comfort, it's a hard-won sense of competence, usually earned in an environment with very limited paths upward. Treat that resistance as information instead of an obstacle, and it becomes one of the most useful signals in the room.
